My wife and I decided to take a hike into the Gunnison Gorge. The Gunnison is simply awesome. The scenery on this short 1 mile hike is so worth the trip, but be warned a 4 wheel drive vehicle is absolutely necessary to get to the trailhead.
Those stairs would be brutal on the way back! After the decent we could hear the roar of the river. It's a sweet place!
I honestly didn't try very hard at wrangling fish. We were more set on hiking and exploring, but I managed this little guy.
What a monster huh? It was a really neat place to see. This spot is apparently where a lot of boaters put in when they float the gorge. I can't even imagine how cool that would be.
Fun drive out too
Blue Mesa Reservoir
Big blue treated me very well throughout ice season, but this day not so much. There are a lot of fish to catch here: lakers, kokes, browns, bows, and a few perch as well. So logically I thought my odds were pretty good...
It's so low :( I tried and tried to catch fish, but was rejected by most. A few bows like this came to hand. Meh...
I also brought in a small brown, but she slipped away before the camera came out.
The next day I found myself frustrated and craving a good day on the water. The East Portal road in Black Canyon NP had recently opened. This is one of the most scenic places I have ever fished in my life.
In the past I have done extremely well here. While no toads were brought in today, I did find some fish.
Cute lil fella. Some browns too.
I did get the chance to sit and watch fish rise. The male bows here are vibrant, and with the spawn going. You have to look real hard, but there's a colored up bow just under the water. It was nice to just sit and watch em.
It was relaxing and beautiful, but sadly it just wetted my appetite for this coming weekend.
Until next time I am discontentedly content.
Life is short, live it well.
